RED Headquarters
New York, NY

a leader in independent music development and distribution

The goal of this 20,000 sf renovation was to create a vibrant and dynamic HQ for RED, a leader in independent music development and distribution. The client requested an open office for collaboration and teamwork with break-out areas for focused work, as well as flexibility to host industry events and town halls.

Reception sets the tone with a colorful meet and greet area adjacent to an open, eat-in pantry at the back. To one side, a custom display of guitars signed by RED’s artists acts as an inspiring back drop to in-house performances. To the other, corrugated steel gates lead into a large meeting room with video conferencing technology. These graffiti-painted gates recess into the ceiling, transforming reception into an impressive space for large events. A tapered corridor connects the pantry into the main office.

High ceilings and exposed ductwork create an industrial, loft-like atmosphere in the main work area. The open space feels grand and spacious, drenched with natural daylight from the large north facing windows. Workstations with orange-panel privacy screens are at the heart of the space with private offices at end.

Framing the space, break-out rooms modeled after sound booths are lined with ribbed steel and paneled internally with acoustic foam for sound abatement to support heads-down work. The design playfully incorporates elements like bean bag seating, felt and steel benches, and a retro diner booth. Working within a tight budget, our team sought out furniture and finishes that were not only fun, functional, and economically viable, but also embodied the RED brand and aesthetic.

Spacesmith was there every single step of the way, listening and guiding us; their level of service was above and beyond what we expected, it surprised all of us. Spacesmith was just as committed to our project as we were; just as if this was their new home.
